Unite’s 2016 pay survey at Barclays bank included questions about stress and workload. In September 2016 the union reported that 2,000 members responded to the survey and 69% reported that they had experienced symptoms of stress because of their job. Some 79% work unpaid overtime and additional hours and 67% attributed this to increased workload. The union says it believes that the increasing pressure staff across Barclays are facing is as a direct result of large-scale job losses over recent years.

“It seems clear that there is a direct link between resourcing, hours worked and stress,” the union reported.
