Employment tribunals - a guide for union reps and workers (March 2019)

Chapter 2

Mediation

[ch 2: page 18]

Mediation can play an important role in resolving workplace disputes as long as it is clearly voluntary, and as long as refusing mediation does not prevent someone accessing the employment tribunal. In-work mediation aims to resolve disputes while a worker is still employed. The TUC and Acas have published joint guidance on good practice, Mediation: a guide for trade union representatives, available on the Acas website. Acas, as a reputable, trusted and impartial organisation, is the TUC’s preferred mediator.
