Launch of inquiry into enforcement of the Equality Act 2010

[ch 18: page 131]

In July 2018, the House of Commons Women and Equalities Select Committee launched an inquiry into the enforcement of the EA 10. In particular, the inquiry is looking at:

• how easy it is for people to understand and enforce their rights under the EA 10;

• how well enforcement action works as a mechanism for achieving wide scale change;

• how effective and accessible tribunals are, and what would make them better;

• how effective current remedies are at achieving change, and what other remedies should be available;

• how effective is the EHRC as an enforcement body; and

• what lessons can be learned from other enforcement models or countries.

The call for evidence closed on 5 October 2018. More information about the results of the inquiry and any recommendations will be available from the select committee website.
