Specific legal equality duties in Wales
[ch 19: page 134]In Wales, the specific duties are found in the Equality Act 2010 (Statutory Duties) (Wales) Regulations 2011. These duties are:
• to publish equality objectives and to report on what steps will be taken to achieve them, by when, and how they will be monitored;
• to review these objectives at least every four years;
• to involve or consult with bodies that represent those with protected characteristics when making decisions;
• to collect equality information and publish it in an accessible way;
• to carry out equality impact assessments involving those affected by the relevant protected characteristics and publish reports;
• to collect and publish information about the number of employees, pay, grade, working pattern, internal and external recruitment, training, discipline and grievance procedures of existing staff, ex-staff and, where appropriate, job applicants, breaking down the data into protected characteristics;
• to train employees on the equality duty;
• to develop and publish an equality action plan to target the gender pay gap;
• to draw up strategic equality plans involving those with protected characteristics;
• to report annually on compliance; and
• to consider equality in the context of public procurement.
