Bombardier night strike

Plans to forced train maintenance workers who service Virgin and Cross Country trains to work 70% of their shifts at night led to strike action at Bombardier’s Central Rivers depot, near Burton, last month.

Mick Stevens, regional officer for the Unite general union, said members were furious at the company for imposing more night work and causing “massive disruption” to family lives. The strike was part of an escalating programme of industrial action, beginning with a 12-week overtime ban.
