Working Time Regulations - Application and enforcement (April 2013)

Chapter 6

Maritime and waterways reference periods

On the inland waterways, where tourism and seasonal variations affect workload, the IWR reference period can be extended to 26 weeks where there is a foreseeable surge in activity or up to 52 weeks by collective or workforce agreement (where there are objective or technical reasons, or reasons concerning the organisation of work, justifying a longer reference period). In fishing the FVR reference period is 52 weeks.
