Contracts of employment - a guide to using the law for union reps (September 2013)

Chapter 3

Interns

According to figures provided by Intern Aware, a national charity campaigning for interns to be paid, the Institute for Public Policy research estimated in 2010 that there were around 100,000 unpaid internships in the UK, mostly doing real work that would otherwise need to be done by a paid member of staff. The TUC campaigns with the National Union of Students for the abolition of unpaid internships.
