Protecting workers from violence and abuse - a union rep's guide (February 2017)

Chapter 4

UK guidance

[ch 4: page 53]

The UK was one of nine countries implementing the agreement through joint guidance.

Preventing workplace harassment and violence – joint guidance implementing a European social partner agreement was drawn up by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the Partnership of Public Employers (PPE) and the TUC, and supported by the government, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the advice and conciliation service Acas.

The stated aim of the agreement is to:

• Raise awareness and increase understanding of employers, workers and their representatives of workplace harassment and both internal and third party violence;

• Provide employers, workers and their representatives with a framework of response to identify, prevent and manage problems of harassment and all forms of violence at work.
