5. WHO IS COVERED BY THE WORKING TIME REGULATIONS

Most working people are covered by one or other of the “family” of Working Time Regulations (WTR) and rules that operate in the UK (see chapter 2 for the names and reference numbers of the different regulations). Whether they are covered, and by which rules and regulations, depends on their employment status (self-employed workers are more likely to be excluded than included), whether they are mobile or non-mobile, what industry they work in, and their age (provision is different for young workers).
