Maternity leave and pay

Pregnant employees have the right to 52 weeks maternity leave and some have the right to statutory maternity pay (SMP) of 39 weeks. Depending on their contractual terms of conditions, they may also be entitled to receive maternity pay for a longer period and at a higher rate than SMP.
