Workplace size

[ch 1: page 12]

The largest workforces report the highest sickness rates. ONS says workers in large organisations employing 500 or more people report the highest rate of sickness absence across all business sizes. In 2017, by the ONS measure, this stood at 2.3%, compared with a rate of 1.6% for workers in organisations that employ fewer than 25 people. ONS commented: “It may be possible that individuals in smaller workforces are under more pressure to make up any lost hours”.
