• are there any contractual benefits already available or that might be negotiated in relation to surrogacy arrangements?
• where all leave has been exhausted for surrogacy leave, check the amount of annual leave that can be taken in one block and/or if annual leave can be saved up from one period to the next, and try to negotiate more flexibility using annual leave;
• unpaid leave can also be negotiated but the terms of the arrangement should be set out in writing to protect the member.
