Night work
[ch 8: page 61]A new or expectant mother can do night work provided that it is not a risk to her or the unborn child’s health and safety. Where there is a risk, the employer must change the woman’s working conditions or hours and work.
Regulation 17 of the Management Regulations say that new or expectant mothers may be suspended from night work where they have a signed certificate from a registered medical practitioner or midwife saying that this is necessary in the interests of health and safety.
Where an employer cannot change the working conditions of a new or expectant mother, the employer must suspend the woman from work for as long as necessary.
