Under the Employment Rights Act 1996 (ERA 96), employee representatives or candidates seeking to be elected to consult over redundancies and/or business transfers have the right to paid time off. It is paid “at the appropriate hourly rate”, normally the weekly rate divided by the weekly contractual hours.
