Health and Safety Law 2020 (August 2020)

Chapter 4

The Management Regulations

[ch 4: page 63]

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (“Management Regulations”) are important because they clarify how employers must comply with their duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSWA) (see Chapter 1). The regulations originate from European Framework Directive 1989 (89/391/EEC) “on the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health of workers at work”.

The HSE has published a suite of “core guidance” on the Management Regulations, including Managing for health and safety (HSG65) which can be found on its website.
