Impact of unions on learning and skills
[ch 7: page 39]The most recent evidence shows that union involvement in learning and skills is having a continuing and positive effect for workers and employers. This is confirmed in results from the 2019 TUC unionlearn research report on workplace training trends, Training trends in Britain. The study shows that the union “mark-up” on training is holding up well, with training volumes averaging a 19% higher level in unionised workplaces. Training participation rates also show a positive trend, with 37% of union members saying that they accessed training in the latest three months, compared to 22% of non-union members. There are also independent evaluations in recent years which have tracked the impact of union learning, including how it transforms lives and strengthens the economy).
