State support and coronavirus - a trade union guide (June 2020)

Chapter 1

How much do employees get under CVJRS?

[ch 1: page 11]

Employees do not receive the CVJRS grant directly, as it is paid to employers. However, for employers to be eligible to receive the grant they must pay furloughed employees at least 80% of their normal pay.

This does not alter if the employer introduces flexible furloughing, when the employer must pay 100% of normal pay when employees are working and 80% when they are furloughed. Employees are encouraged to report fraud to HMRC online and the government plans to set up a fraud hotline.

Employers are able to choose to top up employee wages above the scheme grant at their own expense if they wish.

In addition, employees who benefit from tax credits, a legacy benefit, will continue to receive them as before, irrespective as to whether they are furloughed or working reduced hours due to coronavirus.
