[ch 9: page 69]Here is what the ICO Code says about video and audio recording:
• as always, any employer considering this should start with a privacy impact assessment to decide whether the monitoring is justified given the privacy intrusion (see page 65);
• monitoring should be targeted at areas of particular risk and confined to places where privacy expectations are low;
• “continuous video or audio monitoring of particular individuals is only likely to be justified in rare circumstances”;
• workers must be told clearly that video or audio recording is being carried out, where and for what purpose;
• people other than workers (for example, customers) also need to be made aware that recording is taking place; and
• employers should comply with the separate CCTV Code, In the Picture (see below).
