Negotiating checklist on adoption leave

Reps can aim to:

• include paid time off for pre-adoption meetings;

• agree that parents adopting school-age children can have flexibility over working hours;

• ensure that leave is available to either adoptive parent; and

• make sure that the other parent (secondary carer) is entitled to the statutory or contractual rights to shared parental leave and paternity leave.
