State support and coronavirus - a trade union guide (June 2020)

Chapter 4

Additions linked to caring and health

[ch 4: page 32]

You may be entitled to an additional amount if you care for a severely disabled person or have a health condition or disability which affects your ability to work.

If you care for a severely disabled person for at least 35 hours a week, you are entitled to an extra monthly amount of £162.92. However, if you receive Carer’s Allowance for this, your Universal Credit payment will be reduced by the amount of the Carer’s Allowance you receive.

If you have limited capability for work, were receiving benefit for that condition on 3 April 2017 and still have that condition, you are entitled to an extra monthly amount of £128.25.

If you have a limited capability for work and work related activity, which means that the government has accepted that you cannot work now and you are not expected to prepare for work in the future (see pages 22-23), the extra amount is £341.92. However, this depends on a personal Work Capability Assessment, and currently all face-to-face health assessments have been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
