Budgeting advance

There are similar arrangements around what is called a budgeting advance, which can be applied for to help with:

• emergency household costs such as replacing a broken cooker;

• getting a job or staying in work; and

• funeral costs.

These payments, which range from £100 to £812 for a household with children, can normally only be claimed after six months of receiving Universal Credit. The exception is the money that can be advanced for getting a job or staying in work. There are also limits linked to savings and earnings.
