Leave and pay for working parents - a guide for trade union reps (October 2014)

Chapter 2

Negotiating checklist on shared parental leave

[ch 2: pages 26-27]

Reps can aim to:

• negotiate more blocks of leave for members who require more flexibility. For example, an employer could agree to split the three blocks into smaller blocks of up to a week;

• get shared parental leave paid at full pay for as long as possible;

• reduce or remove any service/qualifying period for contractual shared parental pay;

• negotiate for KIT days to be paid; and

• make sure that all contractual rights continue during the whole period of shared parental leave.
