How much do you get under New Style JSA?
[ch 4: page 45]The amount receive will depend primarily on your age, although any occupational or personal pension income you have above £50 a week will count £1 for £1 against your entitlement. Pension payments of less than £50 are disregarded. However, importantly, your partner’s income will not affect your claim and it is also unaffected by the savings you or your partner have. The maximum weekly amounts are:
• £58.90 - for those aged 24 and under; and
• £74.35 - for those aged 25 and over.
You may also qualify for Universal Credit, but if you qualify for both, any New Style JSA you receive will be taken into account as income for Universal Credit.
Unlike Universal Credit, New Style JSA is only paid for a limited period – up to 182 days (around six months). After that, if you still need support, you will move to Universal Credit.
