Chapter 5

What is Bereavement Support Payment?

[ch 5: page 47]

Bereavement Support Payment provides financial support to someone whose husband, wife or civil partner has died in the last 21 months at a time when the survivor was under the State Retirement Age. It has replaced a number of other benefits, Bereavement Allowance (previously Widow’s Pension), Bereavement Payment and Widowed Parent’s Allowance, which were in place until 2017.
