Freedom of information requests

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) gives anyone the right to access recorded information held by public sector organisations. Unions make frequent use of this right to collect information about public bodies. For example, the NUT uses FoI requests as one of the bases for requiring academies to provide information each year about pay outcomes (see Chapter 3).
