Casualisation at work - a guide for trade union reps (August 2014)

Chapter 10

Help claiming the National Minimum Wage

[ch 10: page 76]

Workers who belong to a union should speak to their rep for advice. If a number of workers are affected, consider a collective grievance (see Chapter 6), and take advice on the possibility of a group tribunal claim for unlawful deduction of wages. Remember that tribunal time limits are very short.

Help claiming the NMW is available by calling the Pay and Work Rights helpline: 0800 917 2368. Calls are free of charge. A translation service is provided into 100 different languages.

The TUC has a minimum wage calculator on its Worksmart website at: www.worksmart.org.uk/minwage_calc.php.

Free advice is also available by calling the Acas helpline on 0300 123 1100.
