Promoting race equality at work - a union rep's guide (March 2017)

Chapter 6

Members of far-right organisations

[ch 6: page 48]

In certain circumstances it may be appropriate for employers to be pressed to exclude from employment members of far-right or fascist organisations.

A number of unions have negotiated such agreements with employers. The NASUWT teaching union secured a ban on members of the British National Party and other far-right groups from working in education. The PCS has an agreement with both the Prison Service and the Home Office that staff are not permitted to be members of the BNP, the National Front, Combat 18 or any other group or organisation promoting racism. And the Fire Brigades Union has agreed similar statements with a number of fire and rescue services.
