Inflation approaches three year high

Inflation rose faster than expected in June, to 2.5% CPI (consumer prices index), its highest figure in nearly three years, up from 2.1% in May, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The RPI (retail prices index) rate also increased, up from to 3.3% to 3.9%.

CPIH, the consumer prices index including owner occupiers’ housing costs, rose by 2.4% in the 12 months to June 2021, up from 2.1% in the 12 months to May. According to the ONS the largest upward contribution to this came from transport.
