Inflation continues to fall

For a third consecutive month cheaper petrol prices helped cut inflation. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI), which excludes housing costs and is the government's preferred measure, fell to 2.0% in December from 2.1% in November. Inflation under the more widely recognised Retail Prices Index (RPI) fell for the fifth month in a row to stand at 2.2% in December.
