Major Polish union joins ETUC

OPZZ, one of Poland’s two major trade union confederations, was last month accepted as affiliate of the European Trade Union Confederation.

With around 700,000 members, OPZZ is one of three major union confederations in Poland. The others are Solidarnosc, which has a similar number of members, and FZZ or Forum, which has around 400,000 members.

The decision last month brings one of the last major union bodies in the European Union still outside the ETUC into the ETUC fold, and may make it easier for the Solidarnosc and OPZZ to co-operate at national level.
