Local bus services

The T&G and RMT transport unions have welcomed government proposals to give local authorities a bigger role in running local bus services. Described by the government as the most fundamental change in the operation of buses for 20 years, the unions hope it will mean quality contracts which allow local councils to introduce services tailored to local needs. But they warned that pay and conditions for the workforce must be improved.
