Inflation is going down

Cheaper furniture, petrol prices and food helped push inflation down. In January, the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rose by 4.2%, which was a drop from the 4.4% rise the previous month.

Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), which excludes housing costs and is the government's preferred measure, was also down to 2.7% from 3.0% in December. Cuts in transport costs and food were the main factors.
