Medical examination

Q: Our employer wants one of our members to attend a medical examination because she has a high level of sickness absence. Does she have to attend?

A: There is no legal obligation on an employee to attend a medical examination. But if her employer is considering dismissing her because of her absences, she should be made aware that a refusal to attend may go against her in any unfair dismissal claim later.
