Inflation rate goes down

Lower gas and electricity bills have helped push inflation down. In September, the Retail Prices Index (RPI) was 3.9% — down from 4.1% the previous month.

Meanwhile, inflation under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), which excludes housing costs and is the government’s preferred measure, was unchanged at 1.8% in September.

It is the third month in a row that the CPI has been below the 2% target.
