TUC membership slips slightly

The TUC's membership figures slipped by 25,000 last year, despite the general increase recorded in the Labour Force Survey (see above). Total affiliated membership at the beginning of 2001 was approximately 6,722,000.

Among the largest 10 unions, five put on members and four lost them (see table).
