TUC decisions

Delegates at last month’s Trades Union Congress agreed that the TUC’s Young Members’ Conference will be entitled to submit one motion directly to the annual Congress, once the general council has had the opportunity to talk to existing young members’ structures first. This follows a similar arrangement made for trades councils last year and replicates the rights of the other TUC equality conferences.

Congress also voted to increase co-operation between unions to foster new membership recruitment. A motion called on the TUC General Council to:

• investigate the scope for a TUC gateway to union membership to facilitate recruitment of non-members and support membership transfers when individuals change their employment; and

• convene discussions with affiliates on a sectoral basis to determine the scope for co-ordinated recruitment and organising campaigns.
