Blacklisting

Members of a third union — the RMT transport union — have been victims of the infamous construction industry blacklist, according to Tribune magazine.

Most cases publicised so far have been on members of the UCATT construction and Unite general unions. However, Steve Hedley, an RMT official, has obtained his 15-page file kept by The Consulting Association.

It records how he was sacked from working on the Channel Tunnel project — and couldn’t get work for three months afterwards. He said: “There is also reference to a general RMT file and other individual RMT members have received their files.”

Planned regulations on blacklisting (see Labour Research, November 2009) are currently under discussion in government circles.
