Airport action off

General union Unite is recommending a “much improved” pay offer to its members at BAA after successful talks with conciliation service Acas and the airport operator.

Industrial action at six major UK airports planned for the August bank holiday was cancelled as the union began balloting its 6,000 BAA members.

The union had earlier rejected a 1% pay offer on the grounds that it had already accepted a pay freeze and changes to the pension scheme the previous year.

Two other unions —Prospect and the PCS — are also balloting their members on the offer.
