Inflation takes a tumble

The rate of inflation under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) took a surprising dip to 5.3% in March against 5.5% the previous month. Cheaper food and drink was the main contributory factor in the fall.

Under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), inflation was down to 4.0% from 4.4% — and again cheaper food, along with a fall in air flights, contributed to the fall.
