Inflation falls again

The annual rate of inflation under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) dipped to 0.7% in October against 0.8% the previous month.

Falls in food, alcohol and tobacco were offset in part by dearer clothing.

Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) — the government’s preferred measure — remained in negative territory at minus 0.1%. It’s the ninth month running that CPI has been at, or very close to, zero.
