Works councils


Works councils, directly-elected representatives of employees at workplace level, are currently being chosen in 28,000 workplaces in Germany. Elections take place every four years and, in most workplaces, are due between March and May this year. 


They are not directly union bodies, but unions put forward candidate and win the majority of seats.
