Transgender case

In a significant decision relating to the rights of transgender employees, an Employment Tribunal has found that a trans employee was subjected to harassment related to gender reassignment, direct gender reassignment discrimination and constructive dismissal.

The harassment included a staff member outing the claimant by calling her “Alexander/Alexandra” and laughing at her, continuing to call her Alexander, as well as referring to her “man’s” voice.

The direct discrimination related to the employer, Primark, failing to deal properly with the employee’s grievance about her treatment.
