Gay equality code planned

The government plans to issue in autumn a code of practice on discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation. A draft code, which has been drawn up with assistance from the Equal Opportunities Commission, is currently out for consultation.

The code will give lesbians and gay men some protection at work, but falls short of the anti-discrimination legislation that the TUC and lesbian and gay campaign groups have been calling for (see Labour Research, July 1999).
