Government recognises British Sign Language

The Natfhe college lecturers' union has welcomed the government's recognition of British Sign Language (BSL) as a language in its own right.

The union, which represents both deaf and hearing lecturers who teach BSL courses, has long campaigned for such recognition.

Natfhe will now be urging the government to introduce legislation supporting an entitlement to BSL interpretation for deaf people, especially in employment and education.
