Union for broadband

Trade unions are still needed in the modern workplace, according to the CWU communications union, which achieved a strong vote in favour of recognition by Telewest broadband engineers.

A ballot of over 1,175 Telewest engineers returned a 96.5% vote in favour of CWU recognition in a 57% turnout.

Deputy general secretary Jeannie Drake said the result "demonstrates that modern and progressive trade unions are very relevant in high-tech industries."
