Carillion axes 900 jobs

Carillion, the construction and services group, is to axe around 900

jobs in the UK as it restructures its mechanical and electrical

engineering subsidiary - Crown House Engineering (CHE).

The group, created by the demerger from Tarmac in July 1999, said it was

cutting about a third of its 2,700 UK staff in a bid to rectify CHE's

"poor financial performance". Carillion said it would be looking first

at cutting down on the 500 agency staff employed at CHE.
