Age-friendly employers

Three British companies have won an international award for age-friendly employer practices. Telecoms giant BT, the Centrica utilities group and insurance group Domestic and General Services are among 10 firms to scoop one of the AARP International Innovative Employer Awards.

The American-based AARP non-profit organisation represents around 40 million Americans aged 50-plus and its awards aim to promote imaginative human resource practices worldwide.

UK non-profit organisation The Age and Employment Network (TAEN) worked with AARP to identify UK-based applicants whose practices meet the needs of older workers in a range of areas including recruitment practices, training and retiree work opportunities.

TAEN chief executive Chris Ball said: “We strongly encourage more UK employers to apply for the 2010 awards.”
