Jobless count falls

Unemployment fell for the second successive month. Under the Labour Force Survey count, which is the government's preferred measure and includes people not eligible for benefits - it was down by 29,000 to 1.7 million in the three months to November.

Under the claimant count, which only includes those drawing Jobseeker's Allowance, it also fell by 5,500 to 943,100 in December.
