French unions in on the Act

The French Senate last month passed an Act setting out new procedures for dealing with employment and social legislation. This procedure, which is now set to become law, ensures that any planned legislation in the employment field must first be discussed with employers and unions. This gives them the opportunity of reaching a binding agreement on the issue, rather than leaving it to the legislators.

The Act covers individual and collective rights at work, employment and training, and requires the government to present an outline of its objectives in these areas for the year to come.
