Capita to run gas installation

Capita will run the new gas safety and gas installer registration scheme, replacing CORGI from next year. Last month HSE awarded a 10-year contract to the Capita Group Plc to provide and run the new Gas Registration Scheme for gas installers from 1 April 2009.

HSE has been asked what Capita knows about gas installation. Capita lost the Congestion Charge contract last year, but still runs other public services, such as the driving test and the Benefits Agency back office. HSE said many of the gas inspectors currently employed by CORGI would transfer to Capita under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 (TUPE). “Profits from the scheme are capped, and there are a number of additional safeguards,” it added.
